HIGHLIGHTS:
Through Corvidae, Julie Budgen had an opportunity to work in the Carribean with the staff on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. Her role was working with the wildlife on this island, including the care of and feeding lemurs, giant tortoises, red legged tortoises, scarlet ibis, flamingos, parrots and spoonbills. Julie worked with the lead wildlife coordinator catching and trimming flamingo wings. A big part of Julie’s time on the island was to help bring in five new species of lemurs! This included separating them into specific areas so they didn’t fight. Catching a lemur is a new skill that she learned, not an easy thing to do! Julie also became the designated person to euthanize injured animals. Due to growing up on a farm (horses) Julie is comfortable with all kinds of animals, and she was the island snake catcher as well as the parrot soother. The parrots got crotchety and harassed guests, so part of Julie’s job was to sing to them daily. Life is a beach.
